TriNet

TriNet is a professional employer organization headquartered in San Leandro, California. It provides HR outsourcing services, including payroll, health benefits, and human capital management for small business owners

Role & Project Summary

  • Terminations - Net Check

  • Terminations Net check experience
  • Net pay is what's left after taxes, health benefits and other deductions are taken out of your check - and we needed a way to determine this in the terminations UI for terminated employees
  • A complete process for determining the details of a net check for an employee

Project Constraints

  • The general layout for terminations was there, it was just not optimized. Rearranging the current components and adding iconography allowed us to make the process more easily understood

  • Users needed to be able to see the net check information for any user and determine the way that check should be distributed
  • We believe users need a quick and easy way to determine net check details for a terminated employee

At the beginning of my design process I created wireframes for testing purposes.

Guiding Questions

  • What kind of wireframes did you make?
  • Low fidelity or high fidelity?
  • What tool did you use for this?
  • Did you use them for testing?
  • How many iterations did you have?

Summary

  • The Net check process to be streamlined and more easily understood from a user standpoint
  • Streamlining the payment process (net check, live check and direct deposit) into a single, more streamlined process that addresses most potential issues will help this process as both the end user and CSR handling terminations requests
  • We addressed the concerns that the terminations CSR team had with how things were coming into them by meeting with their lead to get an understanding of the pending issues and what we could help make better
  • Working alongside the product owner for this feature, we were able to clearly define the requirements by spelling out each permutation of the data in a spreadsheet that I then used to build out all the flows
