NetBase

NetBase delivers the social intelligence that global brands and agencies use to publish, monitor, analyze and engage with customers in real time. Using a high-precision natural language processing (NLP) engine, our platform processes billions of social media posts to extract structured insights delivered via customizable dashboards. Our solutions enable digital marketing, public relations, brand management, customer service, sales, and product innovation leaders to craft winning strategies faster.

Role & Project Summary

  • NetBase Pro: Compare

  • Built upon Instant Search to complete a more robust platform
  • Users needed a way to compare data to gain insights on their social data.
  • Users will be able to compare two data sets in one view
  • Comparing data was a key thing that was asked for by multiple users during the research phase. This allows users the flexibility to look at their data in any way they would like to dissect it, getting them the insights they need
  • Compare came relatively late to the development process, after we had already come up with the core functionality.
  • We explored how to utilize the cards for a compare feature, but realized that would need to open up the complexity of being able to have different sized cards and we decided the card feature, at launch, should only have one size card so we had to come at compare from a different approach

Project Constraints

  • Users need a way to compare data sets to gain insights
  • We believe there is a need by users to compare different types of data in order to gain detailed insights they cannot gain without comparing
  • Strategic Areas: Design and Design Strategy, Feature Design

Wireframes

Example

At the beginning of my design process I created wireframes for testing purposes.

Guiding Questions

  • Why was it useful to do this?
  • What kind of wireframes did you make?
  • Low fidelity or high fidelity?
  • What tool did you use for this?
  • Did you use them for testing?
  • How many iterations did you have?

Summary

  • Compare is a feature that we relied heavily on competitive analysis to fully understand how best to build. While not completely mimicking competitors we found similarities in how they did this kind of feature and we found ways within that to make our own compare feature work best with our subsets of data
  • The compare feature came as a direct result of looking at a competitor who did something very similar. We enhanced it to fit our modular design system and worked within our available data
  • Taking the compare out of the card format and into more a table based format allowed us to build out a more informative feature
  • Project was successfully launched and within the first month brought an additional 7 figures of profit into the company with companion license purchases
